In natural life, it takes a minute to have a crush on someone and it takes an hour to like someone and may take a day to love someone but may take life time to commit to someone. This is so with helping someone realize his/her dream. Many times it takes a very short time to identify the needy especially children, we develop a feeling of helping but never commit to helping them achieve their potential even when we can afford. Most times we ask ourselves what will I gain by spending money on this little poor child or helping him find a few basic needs of life or give them a piece of guidance/counselling. The bible tells us “whoever is generous to the poor lends to the lord and he will repay him for his deed” (Proverbs. 19:17). By helping others we can break a log jam in their life and help them to take a step forward to where they break down old barriers and step into the sunshine. Napoleon Hill once noted that “It is literally true that you can ‘success best’ and quickest by helping others to succeed.” It is not easy to live by this teaching but some people of God have tried.
We thank God for Father Silvester Arinaitwe Rwomukubwe, because all his time he has tried to lift up and influence positively the lives of young people through education assistance and other ways. Some have been able to complete colleges and universities acquiring certificates, diplomas, and degrees because of his support. Three of these are already serving God as catholic priests like their Guardian. He has become a mentor for many and we call him a “priceless gift” because he is a gift from God. He has shown his kindness in times of need, his encouragement in times of struggle, spiritual direction, companion and understanding the human condition.
His mission is to give hope to the would be hopeless and put a face lift on the whole community. The good news now is that he has already laid a foundation for this community growth and we all have to build on it and no turning back. In order to keep this candle burning, we formed a foundation that will majorly unite all those who have been helped by Father to always come together and try to raise other children by helping them realise their potential. This foundation is named after father since he is the basis of its mission and it’s called Fr. Silvester Foundation and he himself is the Patron and chief advisor to the foundation. When asked what inspires him to be so generous especially in bringing up young people, which is also costly, Fr. Silvester said he actually leant it from his dad Mr. Apollinari Rwomukubwe (RIP), who was a community and religious leader and always worked hard to bring people together in his area through settling their cases and on many occasions he would go very late work, that even his work mates (tailors) would sometimes wonder why he cares so much for people than him going early to make money and develop. He used to encourage young people to go to school and on several occasions offered guidance to others. On such a back ground Father feels he is only continuing the spirit of supporting others inherited from his dad. One would then wonder why the foundation is not named after Rwomukubwe since he is the father of the spirit of supporting others. We remember Mr. Rwomukubwe our father and grandfather through Fr. Silvester A. Rwomukubwe since he managed to continue with it. We pray he passes it on to the younger generations so that the communities can realise their dreams, it’s also the foundation for good leadership.
In this world, we meet particular individuals who may change us for the better and we have to remember them kindly, and try to change others for better to. In Mark 5:13-16; God reminds us that “you are the light of the world, a city on the hill cannot be hidden nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand and it gives light to all the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so they may see your good works and give glory to your father in heaven”. God has passed through Fr. Silvester to light our candles, let’s allow them to light more candles. We shall be able to do this better through building Fr. Silvester Foundation; we make it stronger to improve our lives, our faith, our families, communities and the nation at large.
